I never set out to become a cannabis travel blogger. I first started doing cannabis tours in Colorado for some years. Then, I just wanted to write cool stuff, visit cool places, and maybe light up a joint or two along the way. Fast forward a few years, and here I am, editor, writer for 420friendlybooking.com, chasing the high (pun fully intended) of storytelling in weed-friendly cities across the globe.
It’s the kind of job people think is a dream. And you know what? Sometimes… it really is.

From Crumpled Notebooks to Cannabis Lounges
Back when I started writing, I was crammed in tiny basement office I had in my condo, typing blog posts on a gaming pc, running tours in Denver, answering calls and emails, media questions….. all with a half-charged vape (with some fresh oil in it) by my side. The world of cannabis tourism wasn’t even really a thing yet… just whispers online and the occasional stoner’s guide to Amsterdam.
Colorado just legalized, dispensaries popped up like mushrooms, and suddenly people wanted to know where they could vacation, get high, and not feel like criminals. Enter: my very niche but very real job—writing about it.
Now, I’ve written reviews from the back patios of Denver bud-and-breakfasts, typed posts while floating on houseboats in Amsterdam, and hit deadlines from hostel rooftops in San Francisco with the smell of kush in the air. And yes, I’ve absolutely sparked one before hitting “publish.”
The Glorious Grind
Don’t get me wrong, this lifestyle is interesting. I’ve tried infused desserts that tasted great but did nothing to me, and stayed in cannabis-friendly places where the host offered a dab rig before even handing over the Wi-Fi password. Smoked numerous hundreds of bowls with people from around the world. I’ve been handed local strains as souvenirs and invited to underground smoke sessions and events.
But there’s another side to it…
I’ve spent hours researching local laws, calling and talking to police chiefs and sheriffs (for getting my cannabis tour company up and running), hundreds of hotels just to figure out if I/we could light up outside. And I’ve definitely submitted blog drafts that were… let’s just say… too chill for publication. Sometimes, being a cannabis travel writer means balancing a fine line between creative freedom and responsible storytelling. You gotta keep it real, but not reckless.

Not Always a High Ride
You learn quickly that even the “fun” gigs have downsides. Freelancing isn’t all hammocks and hash joints. There’s invoicing, endless emails, and those awkward moments when you explain to your grandma what you actually write about.
People assume the content writes itself… like I’m just getting high in hot tubs all day. But the truth? Writing about cannabis and travel requires hustle. You’re not just describing hotels—you’re capturing a vibe, guiding people to experiences that could be their first, their fiftieth, or their “bucket list” trip.
One of my favorite moments? A reader messaged me saying they followed my itinerary for a weed-friendly weekend in LA and called it “the most relaxing trip of their life.” That… right there… is why I do this.
Writer’s Block Is Real… Even with Weed
Let’s be honest—some days the words just don’t flow, no matter how good the weed is. You stare at the screen, take another puff, and still… nothing. That blank page can be brutal. And if you’re running a cannabis business or blog, staying consistent with content can feel like a full-time job in itself.
That’s where some trusted backup comes in. If you ever find yourself needing help with blog posts, product descriptions, or just solid storytelling for your brand, Cannabis Content Placement Co for some great cannabis content is one of my favorite go-tos. They understand the space, speak the language, and never sound like a robot wrote your blog.
And if you want that content to actually rank and bring in the right traffic…Digital G for cannabis marketing is the move some should take. They’ve helped countless cannabis brands grow with smart SEO strategies and creative visibility tools that actually work.
No shame in getting a little help when the words just won’t show up… I do it too.

So… Would I Do It Again?
Every time I roll my suitcase into another state or country, I feel like I’m chasing something bigger than a good review or killer keyword density. I’m helping build a global culture—one blog post at a time. A culture of curiosity, safety, adventure, and yeah… a little reefer-induced joy.
Being a cannabis travel writer has made me more patient, more observant, and a little better at hiding that red-eye look in airport security lines. It’s not perfect, but it’s real… and if you love storytelling, weed, and wandering—this might just be your dream job, too.
